The key insight of evolutionary psychology is that human behaviour in the modern world
is still largely driven by the exact same psychological adaptations that evolved
to solve recurrent problems in the Stone Age. Culture evolves fast; human evolution is slow.

WHAT WE FEEL
Feelings are the mind’s way of assigning priority labels to behaviours and thoughts by activating specific mental ‘modules’.
BEHAVIOUR
WHAT WE DO
It’s feelings that ‘decide’ the module that will be in charge, and it is modules that then decide what action to take.
COGNITION
WHAT WE THINK
The ‘conscious self’ module doesn’t create any thoughts; it receives them from other modules.
(Yes, strictly speaking, the whole thing is cognition, but ABC is a tidy acronym…)
